The New York State Comptroller is accusing the Department of Motor Vehicles of putting you at risk for fraud. It's the subject of a report released by the comptroller just this week.

Investigators say DMV officials aren't doing enough to enforce rules requiring car dealerships and repair shops to register with the state. They say those very requirements are safeguards to keep you from being defrauded by businesses.

As part of the audit, investigators visited 241 businesses across the state, and found that 60 of them appeared to be open without a valid registration. Officials checked out 18 businesses in Monroe County, and say four of them appeared to be in violation.

The comptroller's office did not have the list of businesses available.
